Process re-engineering & Systems Specification

Click-On Logistics were approached by a leading UK business school on behalf of Thenamaris which is family owned shipping business based in Athens, Greece.  The business processes supporting the  shipping operations were geared around Unix Management Systems which would need to be replaced in the next 1-2 years.

As part of the business change processes, Click-On Logistics were commissioned to undertake a full review of the Supply Chain for shipping supplies around the world.  We engaged our team of process specialists to analyse the purchasing and forwarding departments and following our proprietary methodology, business process maps of the current state (as-is) were produced and validated for the Client.

Following this a brown paper exercise was used to design new business processes with champions from within the Client's organisation.  Future state "to be" process maps were developed and revised.

Throughout the project, Click-On Logistics used iGrafx (www.iGrafx.com) for the purpose of process mapping value stream analysis and in accordance with our base methodology.

Once the process enhancements had been validated and revised with the Client we then undertook an organisation review for the future state in order to develop a migration strategy for the new environment.

The final piece of this jigsaw was a separate project where we further developed a future state process of the iGrafx process maps into a specification of system requirements for purchasing and forwarding.

The Client has taken the systems specification format developed by Click-On Logistics and used this as a base for their invitation to tender for a new systems environment.  Furthermore the same methodology has now been used in wider areas of the business where new systems are to be developed.

The project was undertaken over an 8 month period based in Athens.  Significant benefits for the Client included a transfer of skills in our methodology and the personal development of key individuals in the Client's organisation's planning department.

Thenamaris now have a framework for change supported by our work that forms a key part of their 5 year growth plan.
